Frequently asked questions

  • What is Lava?

Lava is a security platform for neoclouds, AI data centers and on-premise data centers. It connects to compute, network and storage and builds a real-time inventory graph across every layer: BMC, network, GPU, fabric, storage, host and virtualization. Teams use it to see attack paths, harden posture, verify firmware and detect threats at runtime.

  • What is neocloud security?

Neoclouds are cloud providers that rent out GPU capacity for AI workloads. Neocloud security protects the infrastructure their tenants share, such as BMCs, GPUs, fabric, storage and management networks, and the isolation between tenants. Data centers were never designed for multi-tenancy, so a single gap can let one tenant reach another tenant’s workloads, data or shared systems.

  • How does Lava verify firmware integrity?

Lava checks that firmware across GPUs, NICs, DPUs, BMCs and storage is correctly signed, unaltered and up to date. It keeps a current view of the firmware on every node and appliance, attests that it is what was signed, and ranks firmware versions and CVEs by real exploitability, including on new AI hardware that existing security tools can’t protect.

  • How does Lava find tenant isolation gaps?

Lava checks every layer and the shared infrastructure across compute, network and storage for paths between tenants. It confirms that tenants can’t reach each other’s workloads, data or shared systems, and that nodes are left clean between tenants, measured against industry standards such as the FORGE framework. Findings are ranked by impact and severity.

  • Can I check the security of neocloud capacity I rent?

Yes. Lava verifies the isolation, exposure and security of the infrastructure you rent, before and while your workloads run on it. You see the firmware running on your nodes, shared resources and provider-side risks, and get a ready-to-share report that shows your provider exactly what to fix and how.

  • How is Lava deployed?

Lava runs as SaaS, in your own cloud (bring your own cloud), on-premise, or fully air-gapped. Discovery is agentless, so you get a full inventory and security posture on day one, across every layer and vendor, along with prioritized, step-by-step guidance to fix the risks and exposures it finds.

  • Which vendors does Lava support?

Lava works across vendors and layers, including NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Dell, HPE, Supermicro and Lenovo for compute; Cisco, Arista, Juniper Networks, Aruba, F5, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Check Point for networking and security; VAST Data, WEKA, Pure Storage and NetApp for storage; and VMware and Nutanix for virtualization.
